Atlantic is a medium- to late-maturing chip variety noted for is light chip color. It has a wide adaptability to a diverse range of irrigated growing conditions.
Developer: USDA-Beltsville, Florida, New Jersey and Maine Agricultural Experiment Stations, and the Virginia Truck and Ornamentals Research Station - Norfolk.
Release:
Tuber Shape: Smooth, round.
Eyes: Shallow and well distributed.
Skin: Flaky, buff with slight net.
Flesh: White.
Plant: Medium sized, upright vine, with indeterminate growth and light red-purple flowers.
Yield: High (450-500cwt/acre).
Specific Gravity: High (=1.090).
Maturity: Medium.
Resistances: Immune to leaf roll net necrosis and PVX.
Susceptibilites: Susceptible to foliar and tuber early blight, blackleg, PLRV, PVY, common scab, Rhizoctonia scurf, leak, bacterial soft rot and Fusarium dry rot, hollow heart, shatter bruise, associated storage rots and heat necrosis.
Storability: Stores well at 50 degrees F if tubers are handled carefully and are mature. Due to high specific gravity, Atlantic is quite susceptible to bruising. Dormancy is short.
Production Mgmt: Plants emerge quickly. Roots are shallow and concentrated. Atlantic is susceptible to metribuzin applications.
